S&R Trucking provides safe, reliable, and fully compliant flatbed transportation services for oversized, overweight, and specialized freight across Ontario and throughout Canada. With a modern fleet, certified Canadian drivers, and decades of experience, we ensure your cargo is secured, protected, and delivered on time, no matter the size, shape, or complexity.
Our flatbed operations support construction, manufacturing, industrial, and cross-border freight requiring open-deck loading, specialized securement, and precise route planning.
Whether you need one-time flatbed shipping for a single oversized piece or ongoing flatbed trucking services for a regular jobsite delivery schedule, our dispatch team plans the trailer, route, and permits before the truck ever rolls.
Flatbed trucking uses an open, flat trailer instead of an enclosed box, so freight can be loaded from the top, side, or by crane rather than through rear doors. That’s what makes it the standard choice for freight that’s too tall, too wide, too heavy, or too awkwardly shaped for a dry van or container. This is also called flatbed shipping, flatbed freight shipping, or open-deck trucking, and flatbed trucking companies in Ontario typically run a mix of trailer types to match the load.
A shipment only needs a specialized trailer or an oversize/overweight permit once it goes beyond Ontario’s standard limits: 2.6 metres wide, 4.15 metres high, and 12.5 metres long for a single vehicle, or up to 23 metres for a vehicle-and-load combination. Anything within those limits can typically move on a standard flatbed without a permit.
If you’re not sure which trailer your load needs, send us the dimensions and weight and we’ll match the right deck before the truck is booked, that’s often the difference between a straightforward flatbed move and one that needs permits, escorts, or a lowboy. For freight closer to standard pallet size, our Full Truckload (FTL) Services or LTL Services pages may be a better fit than flatbed.
A two-level trailer with a lower rear deck, used when freight is too tall for a standard flatbed but doesn’t need a full double drop.
A trailer with a lowered centre deck, used for extra-tall equipment that would exceed legal height limits on any other flatbed.
A trailer whose front detaches to form a ground-level ramp, letting heavy machinery be driven or rolled on instead of lifted.
A shipment that exceeds Ontario’s standard dimension limits (2.6 m wide, 4.15 m high, 12.5 m long for a single vehicle) and requires a permit to move legally.
A vehicle that travels with an oversized load to warn traffic and guide the route, required once a load passes certain width or height thresholds.
The chains, straps, edge protectors, and tarping used to keep open-deck freight in place and protected in transit.
Our Canadian flatbed fleet supports a wide range of open-deck freight needs:
If your freight moves through a rail ramp or ocean terminal before it reaches the jobsite, our Drayage and Intermodal Transportation teams coordinate the container leg so the flatbed pickup is ready the moment it clears the terminal.
Oversized and overweight freight in Canada requires strict compliance with provincial regulations. S&R manages the entire process, ensuring your freight moves legally, safely, and without delays.
Flatbed rates are built from more variables than a standard dry van move: the dimensions and weight of the freight, the trailer type required (a step deck or RGN costs more to run than a standard flatbed), whether the load needs an oversize/overweight permit, how many provinces or states it crosses, and whether escort vehicles or specialized tarping are involved. Two loads that look similar on paper can price very differently once one needs a permit and pilot car and the other doesn’t. For an accurate number, send us the dimensions, weight, and pickup/delivery details and we’ll price the specific move.
A few things ready ahead of time keep a flatbed pickup on schedule:
Permits typically need lead time once a load is oversize or overweight, so the earlier we have your dimensions, the more routing and scheduling flexibility we have.
Many flatbed carriers promise reliability, but our flatbed services stand out because we combine experienced drivers, specialized equipment, and in-house permit management into a single, accountable operation.
Experienced with oversized and heavy freight, trained in securement, tarping, and job-site delivery.
We plan safe, compliant routes across Ontario and Canada with full permit coordination.
Our Canadian dispatch team provides real-time tracking, route monitoring, permit coordination, and jobsite delivery timing around the clock.
We assess your freight dimensions, weight, and trailer requirements before scheduling pickup.
Our driver arrives with the matched trailer, proper securement equipment, and all permits in hand.
Freight is secured per Canadian cargo standards and transported with real-time GPS monitoring.
On-time delivery at job sites, yards, or customer facilities, followed by post-trip equipment inspection.
We support Canadian businesses across multiple sectors that rely on safe, reliable flatbed transportation.

If your business relies on flatbed freight, S&R provides the specialized equipment and expertise your operation needs.
We provide flatbed transportation across:
Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Kleinburg, Southern Ontario
GTA to Ontario-Quebec border and beyond
Canada-USA with customs-ready documentation
Flatbed is a trailer type, not a separate fleet, so it works alongside S&R’s other services rather than in isolation. If part of your shipment fits a standard trailer and only one piece needs open-deck handling, we can coordinate a flatbed move alongside a Full Truckload (FTL) or Partial Load Solutions shipment on the same job.
Ontario-bound flatbed loads often move along the Highway 401 corridor between the GTA and the Ontario-Quebec border, and for freight that starts as a container at a rail ramp or port, our Drayage and Intermodal Transportation teams coordinate that leg before the flatbed pickup begins.
